Our Core Convictions
God is experienced in Jesus. We experience God through Jesus. Jesus offers healing, hope and love. We are committed to following Jesus as our model, teacher and mentor. Jesus is the focus of our faith and lifestyle, our understanding of the church, and our engagement with society.
God is revealed in the person and life of Jesus. We are committed to a Jesus-centered approach to the Bible and to the community of faith as the primary context in which we read the Bible and discern and apply its implications for discipleship.
We are committed to re-imagining our thinking and being in this world as followers of Jesus.
We acknowledge that our privilege, power, and wealth can damage our witness as followers of Jesus. We aspire to follow Jesus’ model of compassion, dignity, kindness and acceptance.
We believe churches are called to be committed communities of discipleship. In these communities, we are committed to nurturing and valuing the young and the old, where leadership is shared. Roles are related to gifts rather than gender, baptism is for believers, and worship is multi-voiced. As we eat together, sharing bread and cup, we sustain hope as we seek to live into God’s dream together.
We believe that faith and money are interconnected. As followers of Jesus, we are committed to finding ways to live simply, share generously, care for creation, and work for justice.
We believe peace is at the heart of the gospel. As followers of Jesus in a divided and violent world, we accept the challenge to finding nonviolent alternatives and learning how to make peace between individuals, within and among churches, in society, and between nations.
